Weather Report
Wednesday's high temperature in Durham is expected to reach the mid 80s under partly cloudy skies. Thursday will be more of the same, but not quite as hot, with a high around 80.
Who is Entered?
Liberty will bring five throwers (Tim Abbott, Seth Lewis, David Scouten, Jennifer Smith and Jocelyn Williams), two pole vaulters (Jessie Glynn and Ken Ritchey) and its women's 4 x 100 relay team to Duke.
Morris Williams Memories
Liberty performed well at the Duke Invitational on April 10-11, which was the first meet in the history of Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium. The men's squad took home the team title, defeating ACC foes Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and NC State, while the Lady Flames finished second to host Duke.
The Lady Flames' 4 x 100 relay quartet of Enajah Winbush, Abigail Flower, Kate Flower and Olivia Davis clocked a program-record time of 45.81 seconds at the Duke Invitational and will try to improve upon that time on Thursday.
Big South Pole Vault Battles
The men's and women's pole vault figure to be two of the more intriguing events at the 2015 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and the conference's top vaulters will go head-to-head on Wednesday.
The men's pole vault competition, set for a 4 p.m. start, will feature the conference's No. 1 (High Point's Austin Miller, 16-7.5 season best), No. 2 (Liberty's Ken Ritchey, 16-6.75) and No. 3-ranked (High Point's Todd Uckermark, 16-2) vaulters. Miller is the reigning Big South indoor and outdoor men's pole vault champion.
Similarly, the 7 p.m. women's pole vault at Duke will also include the Big South's top three women's vaulters thus far in 2015, in Liberty's Jessie Glynn (13-1.75) and High Point's duo of Jill Marois (12-6) and Alyssa Palenchar (12-6). Marois has won each of the last two Big South titles, including the 2014 outdoor and 2015 indoor crowns.
Punching Tickets to the Preliminary Round
Liberty athletes will have two more opportunities to qualify for the 2015 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet, including the Duke Twilight and Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
At this point in the season, it appears that nine Flames and Lady Flames are bound for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet, which is set for May 28-30 in Jacksonville. Fla. The list includes Aklesso Agama (men's triple jump), Mychelle Cumings (women's shot put and discus), Steve Feister (men's javelin), Fred Fulton (men's shot put and discus), Jessie Glynn (women's pole vault), Daniel Klase (men's javelin), Ednah Kurgat (women's 10K), Kyle Wheeler (men's high jump) and Jocelyn Williams (women's hammer).
The Flames and Lady Flames will be looking to boost their number of qualifiers this week, especially in the men's and women's discus, men's pole vault, women's 100 and women's 4 x 100 relay.
