
Cumings Posts Pair of Top-10 Finishes at Penn Relays

Liberty redshirt junior Mychelle Cumings placed inside the top 10 in each of her events during the opening day of the 121st Penn Relays, Thursday at Franklin Field.
Cumings started her day by throwing the discus a season-best 165-10 for fourth place in the college section of the event. In the process, the Tennessee native moved up to No. 24 in the East Region.
Cumings then came in seventh in the championship section of the women's shot put with a top mark of 48-6.25.
Freshman Dasiana Larson recorded a personal-best shot put mark of 43-1.75, placing 18th in the event's college section. She became the fourth Lady Flame ever to surpass 43 feet outdoors.
Senior Jennifer Smith threw in the college section of three different events on Thursday, highlighted by a 14th-place finish in the discus (146-4) and a 19th–place showing in the hammer (160-4).
On the track, the Lady Flames' quartet of Enajah Winbush, Abigail Flower, Kate Flower and Olivia Davis teamed up for a 4 x 100 relay time of 48.68 seconds, placing 46th of 98 entrants.
At the 106th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, senior Riley Brandon wrapped up competition in the heptathlon on Thursday. Competing unattached, Brandon finished ninth with a score of 4,848. Brandon, who is redshirting the 2015 outdoor season, threw the javelin a personal-best 131-11 and was near her lifetime bests in the 100 hurdles (15.05) and 200 (26.88).
Liberty will be in action at two different meets on Friday. Tim Abbott, Fred Fulton and David Scouten will get the Flames' day started at the Penn Relays, competing in the men's discus at 9 a.m.
Meanwhile, Holly Arey and Jocelyn Williams are entered in the women's discus, the opening event of the Highlander Invitational, set for a noon start.
