
Close Named ECAC Player of the Week

Liberty first baseman Alex Close has been selected the ECAC Division I South Player of the Week for the week ending on March 29.
The senior first base already had been selected as the Big South Player of the Week for games played March 23-29.
Close hit .500 with nine RBI and seven runs scored over five games, last week. He also collected three doubles and hit two home runs, including a grand slam. The senior had a hit in each of Liberty's five games and collected two or more hits in four of the contests. He posted a .565 on base percentage and a .950 slugging percentage.
Close started the week with two hits, a double and a run scored versus Duke, March 24. The following afternoon against No. 12 Virginia, the first baseman collected three hits, two RBI and scored a run.
In a three-game series against Presbyterian this past weekend, Close batted .385 with seven RBI and five runs scored. Friday, he tied a career high with six RBI, hitting two home runs, one a grand slam, in a 9-5 win. Saturday, he had a RBI double in a 4-1 victory and Sunday, he had two hits and scored three runs in a 9-3 Flames' win.
Close and Liberty open a three-game Big South Conference series at Charleston Southern, this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
