Alan York of the Liberty Flames Sports Network recently caught up with Liberty Men's and Women's Track & Field Head Coach Brant Tolsma to recap the 2014 outdoor track & field season.
The Flames captured their eighth consecutive Big South Conference outdoor men's track & field team title. In the process, Liberty wrapped up its eighth Big South men's Triple Crown in a row, consisting of conference championships in men's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.
Meanwhile, the Lady Flames finished as the Big South runner-up, placing among the meet's top two teams for the sixth consecutive year.
Seven Liberty athletes competed at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. However, for the first time since 2003, no Liberty competitors qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Two different program records went down during the 2014 outdoor campaign, including the women's 400 hurdles (60.32 by Ansley Gebben) and the women's sprint medley relay (3:53.34 by Oasis Hernandez, Abigail Flower, Ansley Gebben and Meghan Burggraf).
