After a very successful showing at the IC4A and ECAC Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, a trio of Liberty athletes earned Big South Conference honors on Wednesday. Anthony Bryant was named the Big South Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the week, Jennifer Klugh was tabbed the Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Christina Mitchell was recognized as the Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.
All three Liberty award winners have now garnered multiple conference weekly honors this season. Klugh is a three-time Big South Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Bryant and Mitchell have claimed two Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors apiece.
Bryant recorded the longest indoor triple jump of his career, 50-2.75, placing third at the IC4A meet. The redshirt junior contributed to Liberty tying Rutgers for team runner-up honors.
Klugh advanced to the ECAC mile final for the second year in a row, crossing the line in third place. Her personal-best time of 4:51.04 was the fastest mile run by a Lady Flame since Heather Sagan won the 2002 NCAA Division I indoor national title in 4:38.52.
Mitchell also nabbed a third-place finish in Boston, thanks to her personal-best score of 3,651 points in the pentathlon. Mitchell's showing was the best by a Liberty pentathlete at the ECAC meet since Danielle McNaney won the event in 2005.
Bryant and Mitchell will both open the 2011 outdoor track & field season this weekend at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The two-day meet in Conway, S.C. will begin Friday at 10 a.m.
