For the third consecutive season, Liberty redshirt senior Rebekah Ricksecker has earned a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's track & field/cross country team. She was included on the second-team roster within District 3's University Division, as announced today.
Ricksecker was previously a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree in 2008 and a first-team Academic All-District selection a year ago. Those are just two of the many academic distinctions the Laurel, Del., native has garnered during her time at Liberty.
Ricksecker, who graduated with a 3.95 grade-point average in elementary education, owns a 3.5 graduate GPA as she begins working toward a master's degree in English. She was voted the 2010 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for both women's indoor and outdoor track & field.
On the track, Ricksecker played a key role in Liberty's first-ever men's and women's cross country/track & field Big South Conference "Double Triple." She competed in a total of six events at the Big South indoor and outdoor championships, winning three of them and scoring 45 total team points for the victorious Lady Flames.
Indoors, Ricksecker was the Big South mile and 3K champion, becoming the first Lady Flame ever to win both of those events at the same conference championship meet. Outdoors, she captured the 1,500-meter run title, making her the first Big South runner ever to win the event three times.
Ricksecker finished as a five-time Big South individual champion and a 13-time All-Big South performer during her time with the Lady Flames. She also competed at both the indoor and outdoor ECAC Track & Field Championships this season and ran the 1,500 at the NCAA Division I Preliminary Round meet.
