2/7/2007 12:00:00 AM | Track and Field
For the second-consecutive week, a junior on the Liberty men's track and field team has been named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. This time, the honoree is Jon Hart, who finished third in the weight throw at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational last Saturday.
Hart's (Wyomissing, Pa.) selection follows that of Josh McDougal (Jr., Peru, N.Y.) from Jan. 31. Hart finished third out of 34 competitors in the weight throw at the famous Armory Track in New York City. His best mark of the day, 61-8.5, marked the top weight throw by a Big South Conference athlete this season. Only one other Flame, Dan Royal, has ever gone over 60 feet in the event.
Hart and his teammates will compete at home for the final time during the indoor season Friday evening, as the Flames host the Liberty Quad at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. The men's weight throw will be the meet's opening event, scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
