Liberty senior Arlene Zelinskas has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after breaking the school 55-meter hurdle weekend at this past weekend's Virginia Tech Invitational.
Zelinskas (Dayton, Ohio) clocked a 7.99 during the semifinal round of the 55-meter hurdles at Virginia Tech on Friday, eclipsing an 18-year-old program record. She then came back to run an 8.02 in Saturday afternoon's hurdle final, which was good for fourth place.
In addition to her hurdling exploits, the multi-event athlete also competed in the high jump and the long jump over the weekend. She tied for fifth in the high jump with a 5-5 effort. Zelinskas ended up 22nd in the long jump, leaping 17-6.75.
Zelinskas and the rest of the Liberty men's and women's track and field teams will return to action at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center Jan. 26-27, when the Flames host the On Track Open.
