
Four Flames Earn ASUN Baseball All-Academic Team Honors

2021 ASUN Baseball All-Academic Team
Liberty outfielder Aaron Anderson, catcher Gray Betts, third baseman Trey McDyre and pitcher Landon Riley have been named to the 2021 ASUN All-Academic team. The team honors players for both their achievements in the classroom and on the field.
Anderson has posted a 4.0 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in business administration. The outfielder leads the Flames with a .348 batting average, has 37 RBI and 33 scored runs in 47 games.
The junior from Jacksonville, Fla. leads the ASUN Conference in doubles with 17 and is seventh in the nation in two-base hits. He is also tied for the ASUN lead in hits with 65. In addition, the outfielder is among the ASUN leaders in batting average (4th), on base percentage (6th), RBI (tied-7th) and slugging percentage (tied-7th). He was selected the ASUN Player of the Week for March 22.
Betts has a 4.0 GPA in accounting during his three years at Liberty. The catcher has been a member of the ASUN Honor Roll for both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 academic years.
On the field, the Flames lead-off hitter is currently hitting .343 with 22 RBI and a team-high 48 runs scored in 47 games. Betts leads the Flames with a .459 on base percentage. The Raleigh, N.C. native, has both the longest hitting streak and reached base safely streak of any Liberty player, this season, as he had a hit in 21 consecutive games earlier in the year. He currently has reached base safely in 36 consecutive games.
Betts enters the weekend second in the ASUN Conference in runs and third in on base percentage. He leads the conference with 34 walks and is tied for the lead in triples with four. In addition, he is among the conference leaders in batting average (5th), hits (5th) and doubles (8th).
In his final year at Liberty, McDyre has posted a 3.97 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in business administration. The senior third baseman earned a bachelor's degree in marketing analysis from Liberty. He has been a two-time member of the ASUN Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll.
On the field, McDyre carries a .267 batting average with 23 RBI and 33 runs scored. The senior has posted a .383 on base percentage. The Purcellville, Va., native has committed only four errors during 2021 and has a .972 fielding percentage.
Riley has a 3.92 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in business administration. The junior pitcher earned his bachelor's degree from Liberty in biomedical science. He is a two-time member of the ASUN Honor Roll and was also a member of the Big South Conference Presidential Honor for the 2017-18 academic year.
On the field, the right-hander has posted a 2-0 record with a 4.32 ERA and five saves in 17 appearances, all in relief, this season. He has struck out 18 and walked eight in 16 2/3 innings. He is currently tied for fifth in the ASUN Conference in saves.
North Florida first baseman Alex Kachler was the named the 2021 ASUN Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The ASUN will announce its conference awards and all-conference team later this afternoon.
The North Division's No. 1 seed Liberty will host the division's No. 4 seed Bellarmine in a best-of-three ASUN Quarterfinal series at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium, this weekend. The series gets underway Friday at 6 p.m. The winner moves on to the ASUN Championship Rounds at North Florida's Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., next Thursday through Saturday.
