21 Flames Qualify for NCAA Division I East First Rounds

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A group of 21 Liberty track & field athletes have qualified for next week's NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet (May 28-31) in Jacksonville, Fla. For the eighth time, the event will be contested at North Florida's Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
The 11 Lady Flames who will compete in Jacksonville include Paola Bueno (hammer), Indea Cartwright (100 hurdles and 4 x 100 relay), Adelyn Fairley (5K and 10K), Kate Goodyear (800), Marie Hostetler (steeplechase), Akilah Lewis (100 and 4 x 100 relay), Mahogany Mobley (4 x 100 relay), Katrina Schlenker (steeplechase), Addilae Watts (javelin), Reese Webster (100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay) and Allie Zealand (1,500).
Liberty will also send 10 men to the Sunshine State, including Beau Backes (discus), Christian Hicks (discus), Kellen Kimes (hammer), Omari Lewis (100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay), Troy McKnight (4 x 100 relay), Elijah Sherard (400), Joshua Smith (triple jump), Eddy Vu (4 x 100 relay), Revell Webster (4 x 100 relay) and Markus White (long jump).
The Flames' 21 NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet qualifiers mark the fifth time Liberty has ever sent 20+ athletes to this event, including the fourth time in the last five years.
The four-day competition, which will determine the qualifiers to the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, will begin May 28 at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer. All men's events will be contested on May 28 and 30, with the women's events slated for May 29 and 31.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be contested June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The top 12 finishers in each event in Jacksonville will advance to Eugene, along with the top 12 finishers from the NCAA Division I West First Rounds meet, scheduled for May 28-31 in College Station, Texas.
