Flames Ready to Make Preseason Basketball Journey to Canada

The Liberty men's basketball team is scheduled to make a preseason trip to Ontario, Canada, over Labor Day weekend for a two-game exhibition schedule, announced head coach Ritchie McKay.
"I am really excited about the opportunity our team gets by traveling to Canada and play against some competitive teams," said McKay.
The Flames are set to open their exhibition schedule on Sept. 1 when they take on Brock University, located in St. Catharines, Ontario. Liberty concludes the exhibition slate on Sept. 2 when the Flames battle Guelph University, located in Guelph, Ontario.
The unique feature to the Flames' preseason campaign is the NCAA grants them 10 days of full practice. "This preseason excursion is important because it gives us the chance to jump start, implementing a new system and give us a feeling for the returnees and new comers, as well. I really like what we were able to accomplish in the spring. I'm looking forward to our guys carrying some of that over from the summer as we start the fall," commented McKay.
Liberty will leave for Canada on Aug. 31 and will be staying on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, marking the team's third trip to the Falls region in the past nine months. The Flames visited the Falls in December after playing at Buffalo, and later in February when taking on Niagara in the O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBuster.
This will be the Flames' first trip outside the 50 states since December 2005 when they participated in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
Liberty is set to open the 2007-08 season on Nov. 9 against San Diego State as part of Fresno State's World Vision Classic.
